Helping to give Shell a lift

SITI, a Shell company, was looking for an outsourcing partner for the delivery of mainframe services. Atos Origin was selected and from mid 2002 has been providing these services for an initial period of four years.

Business Challenges

There were a few challenges such as to lift the OS/390 platform (600 MIPS) from Shell to Atos Origin within two months, while avoiding any disturbance to Shell’s high business critical applications.

Solutions

The contract covers the provision of mainframe services and a state-of-the-art disaster recovery service. Atos Origin also installed a complete new mainframe environment to take advantage of state-of-the-art technologies. Immediately after the selection of Atos Origin, a contract team and a migration team started preparations together with SITI and the contract and Service Level Agreements were agreed.

Meanwhile, about 90 people from SITI and Atos Origin worked hard on transferring knowledge from SITI to Atos Origin, introducing Shell Customers to the Atos Origin data centers, installing the mainframes, and linking the Shell community with Atos Origin.

SITI currently provides mainframe services for the Shell organization, mainly for NL and UK-based customers. Top customers such as Shell International Trading and Shipping Company Limited (STASCO), and Shell People Services (SPS) run their most critical business applications on this platform.
