What do I do? Well, it's a pretty long list of things really mainly focused on new business development for my industry market which includes pursuing and managing opportunities; managing executive relationships with suppliers and partners, creating business plans, developing commercial strategies and presenting Atos Origin and our capabilities at seminars and trade shows.
It’s all part of the commercial and sales lifecycle so I don't really do the technical side of things anymore. I did start working as a systems engineer and after that as a presales engineer then a technical business consultant for three years before my current role - which is a great example of the kind of progressive career development you can find in Atos Origin. My life has changed quite dramatically since joining the company, it's a rollercoaster ride which is always exciting!
I get the chance to do deals with the world's biggest companies which is amazing. Every one is a challenge but I like a challenge! I think you have to in this job. Deals tend to be regionally focused but if they're run by two or more countries we all share experiences and ideas with colleagues in other countries. This cultural exchange and team spirit is at the heart of what we do and what we do well. It's one big global team.
Here in Madrid we work with a diverse range of people across the business - Account Managers, presales engineers, project managers, operations managers - so having good relationships within the company, talking and listening and learning, are important as well as outside with clients too. Our clients are for life, it's long-term involvement, not saying goodbye once a project is finished but continuing to build relationships, I think based on confidence, credibility and intimacy, to build business. Clients also buy the expertise, commitment and excellent skills of our people - our personal and professional qualities make us among the best in the world at what we do. It's great being a part of it all.
