13th Mediterranean Games 1997

Bari, the capital of Apilia, the sun-baked region of Italy, staged the XIII Mediterranean Games in June 1997. For fifteen days, athletes, trainers, escort staff and journalists gathered in this beautiful part of Italy and turned it into the center of the European sporting world.
It was the first time Italy had hosted the Mediterranean Games since 1963. It was also the second time Atos Origin had been chosen as Official Supplier of Operational Management Systems to the Mediterranean Games, after the 1993 Games in Languedoc-Roussillon, France

The Systems

To ensure the efficient running of the Games, the systems were designed to deal with:

  • The 10,000 participants expected at the Games (athletes, volunteers, "Games Family"). The Atos Origin Accreditation System allowed the registration of participants, the assignment of their function and privileges, and the printing of their accreditation pass
  • 1,500 volunteers, who were selected out of a registered 6,000, using the Volunteer Management System, developed by Atos Origin
  • The many VIPs invited to the Games, using the VIP Management System, which helped the Organizing Committee to record and track dates of arrival and departure, and to organize accommodation, transportation and itineraries
  • The movements of all participants for whom a room was booked in one of 15 designated hotels. The Arrival and Departure System allowed the Organizing Committee to register and track all of them.
