In November 1996, Atos Origin was appointed as the Official Information Systems Supplier to the XVI Commonwealth Games. They were held in the Malaysian capital from 11 to 21 September 1998.

The Commonwealth Games are the second largest sporting event after the Olympic Games, and are a showcase of the world's greatest sporting nations. Although not as big as the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games are a true international event with an impressive number of competitors - 6,000 world-class athletes and officials from 70 different countries. The 1998 Games were the biggest hosted so far, and the first to introduce team sports (cricket, hockey, netball and rugby).
