To some extent, for the last few years, media hype has exceeded real action in the area of sustainability solutions. But 2009 has seen a marked upturn in 2009 in genuine interest in “The Drive For Sustainability” as businesses look to find ways to reduce their environmental footprint.
As well as being committed to implementing sustainable best practices throughout its organization and in its business, Atos Origin is focused on helping our clients maximize the opportunities sustainability provides them and accompanying them on their journey toward environmental excellence.
As an information services provider, we offer our customers solutions to shrink their own environmental footprint by reducing and optimizing their energy consumption. These include:
- innovative consulting and technologies to reduce the amount of electricity used by data centers and servers;
- tracking and decision-support technologies to protect the environment;
- paperless solutions and virtualization services.
But now we want to move beyond these early Green IT solutions and are already implementing some innovative new ideas together with our clients. These include:
- Deploying Environmental Tracking and Decision Support Resources - Information portals, comparison tools and permit trading and compensation platforms consolidate data produced by different environmental impact traceability solutions. These technologies, which are useful for businesses, also target consumers. One example is the UK’s Royal Society of Arts, where we adapted existing technology to create individual carbon accounts so that users can calculate their personal carbon emissions and trade carbon credits.
- Leveraging Paperless Solutions to Reduce Environmental Impact - Paperless solutions such as videoconferencing, instant messaging and information sharing are an integral part of Atos Origin’s offering. In a project for ERDF, for example, our technology will be used to deploy 35 million smart meters that can be read remotely, without a technician’s visit.
- One of Atos Origin’s flagship projects in Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and paperless solutions is the new distributed archiving and preservation system (SPAR) for the French National Library. The system will be able to manage more than 1,000 terabytes of data by tagging them with metadata to facilitate long-term preservation and process them to keep them accessible long into the future.
Think of the Fish
The surgeon fish, our Company logo, constantly adapts to its natural environment and we, too, are constantly adapting our services to address our clients’ needs. Therefore, our communications will now include “Think of the Fish” as a tagline. This message will help promote our commitment, increase our brand value and establish a unique position in sustainability.
The message reflects that we are a responsible company and sustainability is one of the key pillars of our brand. Therefore, whenever you see the fish you know we are working to make a difference, for the environment, for ourselves, for our clients, and for the community.
