Teddy Riner
At just 18 years old, Teddy Riner has accomplished an unbelievable double winning the European Championships and the World Championships in 2007, thus becoming the youngest world judo champion in history in the men’s heavyweight category +100 kilos.
The French athlete won his first titles at the age of 14. He became champion of France in the 15 to 17 year old division and then in the junior division. In 2006, Teddy proved his determination by becoming the gold medalist in the European Championships and in the junior division of the World Championships. In 2007, he won the European Championships in Belgrade and then the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, eliminating two world champions along the way.
This year Teddy Riner has had another exceptional season being recognized at both the Paris Tournament, and then at the French Championships 2008.
Currently in the running for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Teddy is concentrating his efforts on winning a new title. He says “I’m going to work even harder on my speed. Perseverance and hard work always pay off.”
